Base 10 math

Base 10 is a math site that I found that helps students with determining the differences between one’s and ten’s. This site would be good for grades 2-4 as working with bases for adding and subtracting numbers becomes really important. Most new math programs are focusing more on learning the basics of base 10 so this site may not even be worth while for these students in a few years, it may need to be moved to younger grades as they start to learn more about this at younger ages. This site allows students to work with blocks of 10’s and one’s just like you can in a classroom, so it turns the hands on into a virtual experience.

Louis the Lightning Bug

Louis the Lightning Bug helps to teach students how electricity works. In grade four science student are going to learn about electricity, this is a video that will help students to be come familiar with how electricity works and why. This video is a "watered down" version so it would work well for the grade 4's as an interduction. I would keep this video link on my computer so students could refer back to it, some may need to see it a few times before they understand.

Body wonder

This site talkes about the different body systems, how they work, and what they are used for. This website would be good for grade 6 science about body systems or for a health course when you discuss what they body is made of and how it works. This site allows students to play interactive games, like placing a muscle in the appropriate spot, it gives you clues and then tells you what the muscle does. You can look at muscles, skeleton, nervous, organs and puberty. This site is designed for students around the 8+ range. I would use it as an aid for students who are curious and want to learn more, as well as a tool for information.

Robert Munsch

Robert Munsch as a website in which students can contact him, read other students work, and there are some of his stories in which students can listen too online. This is a great website for grade 2-5 students, within a language arts curriculum. Students can see what other students their age have accomplished, as well they can listen to different stories and poems of Robert's. I think this website is a safe and fun environment for students to explore liturature, to either learn more or discover new things.

Volcanoes

This site is all about volcanoes. It has updates on the lastest volcanic activities from around the world. It talkes about volcanoes from around the world and their stories. There are lots of interesting pictures. This site would work well in a hotlist for grade 6 science on volcanoes.

Erin

This website has links to accross Canada. This website should be something that is in all classrooms. It could be useful for Social studies, when students learn about Canada or different communities. It is good for current events in the morning. It is good for language arts, if students want to write a letter to the editor, or see how a newspaper is formated or to see how articles are written. This website would be a useful tool for any classroom, and it would be something that I would keep as a book mark on all class computers as well as on a class website.

Weather Network

I think the weather network site would be useful in all classrooms. This website could be used for math, if you are following tempurature change, or working with negitive numbes. It would work for science as you learned the importance and differences in weather. You could track hurricanes or learn about weather in different ecosystems. Or you could use this website in social studies when you are comparing countries, and why and how they differ.

EduGreen

EduGreen is a website for students about enviromental learning and impacts. Students learn about life on earth, forestry, energy, water, air pollution, climate change, biotechnology, and solid waste. There is information on all of these topics, as well as games, quizes and other fun things to help students learn. This site would work well with the grade 5 science unit on Resources. It is important for students to know what is going on around them and that some of these resources won't be around for ever. Then need to know the impact they are making and why it is important for them to make a difference. I think I would have this on a class web site all year long, because I believe it is important for students to have access to this information at all times, not just when the unit is being taught.

Rainforest live

Rainforest live is an interactive learning website about the rainforests and the plants, animals, and people in them. This site would work well in the grade 5 science unit on communities and ecosystems. This site allows students to learn about different types of rainforests. There are articles that students can read about the destruction of the rainforests. This site would allow students to explore, learn about destruction and conservation. It is important to know why the rainforests are so important, and that they really are a fragile ecosystem.

Switzerland

In the grade 6 social curriculum students are asked to look at different parts of the world, how they compare to canada, what are some of their features, how do the people live. In this website Switerland 4you, students can see maps, find out popluation, money conversions, quality of life, political systems. This site would work for students who are interested in looking at or learning more about Switerland. If I were to use this site I would make sure that I had a bunch of different sites for many different countries so that the students could pick and choose. These sites would give them a brief taste of what the country is all about.

SK industry and Resources

In the grade 4 social studies curriculum there is a unit on indendity- Resource and industry in Saskatchewan. I found an Saskatchewan Government website on industry and resources. This site looks at facts, key sectors, publications and our resources. This webpage would work great for a webquest that could tie in some enviromental issues with Saskatchewan Resources and Industry. This webpage, although very wordy, would have some good information for the students as long as they were willing to look for it.

Celebrating Saskatchewan

Grade 4 social studies takes a deep look at Saskatchewan, who we are, where we came from and much more. Celebrating Saskatchewan website is a link for many different ideas on Saskatchewan, things like the first people, Saskatchewan time lines, multi media. This site was actually designed by the Saskatoon public school board with the help of the Western Development Museum. Students can use this website as a resource for papers, or presentations, but also for their own knowledge, there are many pictures and articles that could spark and interest with some of the students on a personal level.

Erin

Punctuation Paintball is a great game for students to just play around with (I got addicted and made my self stop at level 6, Hey it was fun!) It is a good site for students who hate punctuation, but love to play games. This site would work again for students in grade 3-5. It is fairly easy but it gets more difficult as you go up in levels, it also becomes faster. To break up the levels you get to shoot at aliens. This game is something that I would want to have on my class webpage all of the time. It makes grammar fun.

Fishing for Fractions

Fishing for Fractions is a great site to learn about fractions in a drill and practice format. This site would work well for students in a grade 3-5 level of math. There reason I left the range so broad is because some students are further ahead then others and visa versa. This game allows you to choose the form of fractions that you want, fraction decimal, simplest form, comparing fractions and so much more. This site allows students to choose what they are comforatable with or not. But they still have choice. I think this site would be good to have on a class website that students can access at school when they have free time or from home.
